On a narrow peninsula extending into the Lake Erie at Sandusky, Ohio is the Cedar Point amusement park. The park contains the most numbers of roller coasters at a staggering seventeen, one of which includes the Top Thrill Dragster – the second tallest and second fastest in the world.

Normally, Cedar Point opens daily from early May through Labor Day and nine weekends after. However recently, the Cedar Point amusement park is open daily from the 10th of May through the 1st of September and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from the 5th of September up to the 2nd of November, which only means more time for you to experience the thrill, adrenaline rush and excitement at the amusement park.

All about the Rides and the Coasters

The Cedar Point amusement park is home to several roller coasters, such as: the Blue Streak, WildCat, Corkscrew, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Jr. Gemini and Gemini, Disaster Transport, Raptor, Mantis, Iron Dragon, Magnum XL-200, Millennium Force, Woodstock Express, Mean Streak, Maverick, Wicked Twister and the Top Thrill Dragster.

However, one roller coaster that stands out above the rest is the Top Thrill Dragster, which remains as the highest skyline in Cedar Point today. The roller coaster consists of white and red Intamin 4 rail track that is attached to a bright yellow support tower.

Visitors wanting to test the roller coaster will wait at the concrete gateway that leads underneath the launch track. The queue never crosses under either side of the ride but instead, consists entirely of the space in the middle of both tracks. Those are waiting in line would have a unique experience of having trains speed by at either side. While waiting for their turn, they can also read about some of the facts regarding the ride at the left wall, as well as statistical comparisons of the roller coaster to an actual drag race car.

Aside from the rides designed for the daring, there are family rides at Cedar Point, such as: Cadillac Cards, Antique Cars, Giant Wheel, Matterhorn, Calypso, Cedar Downs Racing Derby, Monster, Ocean Motion, Scrambler, Kiddy Kingdom Carousel and the Paddlewheel Excursions, to name a few.

How Cedar Point Started

Upon development of the area, Cedar Point was covered with cedar vegetation and crystal clear waters that provided excellent grounds for fishing. During the American Civil War in the 1860s, a structure for artillery pieces were built at the tip of the peninsula. However, Cedar Point resumed its role as an area for summer picnics after the war; the preliminary park started construction in the year 1870.

A businessman named George Arthur Boeckling spent decades expanding the park through planting flower gardens, constructing lagoons, adding rides and a boardwalk and opening several hotels beginning in the year 1899. Boeckling retired in the year 1931 and died later that year.

The Cedar Point amusement park continued to expand over the course of the century with the addition of a variety of roller coasters and rides. During the next fifty years, the park expanded rapidly and featured a multitude of record breaking and setting roller coasters.

Over the years, the Cedar Point amusement park has transformed from a simple amusement and picnic area into a resort with a number of hotels and camping areas. Recently, the park has added a Snoopy-themed area dedicated for the fun of children visiting the park.
