P.S.  Here is what others are saying about Las Gaviotas…
“What a comfortable place!”

My sister and I loved our stay at Las Gaviotas, and hope to return in the fall. The units are huge, with a fresh breeze blowing through. The units were well equipped and very pleasant. The staff was wonderful, and we loved that this was not a big fancy gringo resort. If you want to feel like Vegas in Mexico,…

“Always Above Expectations”

I have now stayed at Las Gaviotas 4 times. My husband and I go down with friends and rent either a 3 or 4 bed house. Everytime it has been with a different owner and every time it has been perfect. We usually do a costco shop, fill a cooler with veggies, fruit, meat and buy beer/etc at the shop…

“A nice change”

This may not be the vacation for you if you want to be pampered at pool side, have room service and experience all of the amenities a large resort has to offer. Las Gaviotas has it’s own niche, completely unlike other resorts. The resort is small and there is no restaurant on location. However, the locals are friendly, there are…

“Great urban vacation”

Great casual resort for an urban vacation. One block up from the busy Mercado - the primary promenade around the bay. Easy walking access to a variety of restaurants and bars and shops. Room came with all the basics needed for a relaxing week, including a full-size fridge, affordable water for drinking and making ice cubes, and a nice pool… more

“This is a timeshare?? Great little place”

This little timeshare property in laid back La Paz is a real sleeper. The complex is not new, nor glitzy, but the place is immaculately cared for and the people could not be nicer. 16 units only, we got to it through an exchange with RCI, and spent a week there. Large unit, great king bed, plus other sleeping for…

“Loved, loved, loved Las Gaviotas”

What a pleasant surprise! Las Gaviotas is great. The staff is exceptional. I can’t think of a single complaint. Everything was perfect. We loved La Paz as well. In fact, we’re going back to Las Gaviotas this spring.

“Under advertized gem!!”

Couldn’t find much about this resort but went ahead with a RCI exchange there. What a wonderful surprise if you are into wanting a bit of old Mexico charm as well as modern conveniences and hospitality.

“Excellent Experience at Las Gaviotas”

We had a truly great time staying at Las Gaviotas in LaPaz. The staff could not have been more helpful, especially Alejandro. The space was commodious and well maintained. We were on the third floor and our balcony looked out on the Malicon and the bay. . . a great view. Our rental car was very secure in the parking…

“We loved Las Gaviotas & La Paz!”

We just returned from La Paz (our first time to the Southern tip of Baja), and completely enjoyed the time we spent in this non-tourist city. The trips to the beaches, fishing (Dorado rules!) and snorkeling trip were all the adventure we could have asked for. The hotel was a welcome comfort after some full days of fun in the…

Planning a Destination Wedding? Get Married in Jamaica!

Do you have a wedding coming up?

Are you sick of trying to plan a wedding and fight for overbooked halls and churches and caterers?  Wouldn’t you rather get married on the white sands of Jamaica surrounded by a turquoise ocean and your most beloved family and friends? If so, you should plan a destination wedding in Jamaica. Destination weddings are very trendy right now.

Destination weddings might seem decadent but really they are very practical. The bride and groom can honeymoon without having to go anywhere and all the wedding guests get a nice vacation in addition to being able to see a loved one get married.  When you plan a destination wedding you don’t have to worry over what hall to choose and what church to hold the service at or anything like that either.

Most of the time when you book a destination wedding all the arrangements are handled at the hotel and the event is held at the hotel or on the beach.  Some resorts even have private beaches that are perfect for weddings.  Think of how great it would be to just be able to relax and be excited about your wedding and let the hotel staff handle all the arrangements.

Often when you book a destination wedding there is a wedding planner assigned to help you that can tell you about different packages that the hotel offers. Many wedding packages are all-inclusive so you don’t need to worry about silverware, linens, glasses, food, the bar, entertainment or anything else. You can just relax and enjoy the georgeous tropical sunshine.

Jamaica is the perfect place for a destination wedding. It’s warm and tropical and beautiful and yet it’s close and accessible too so that travel isn’t a huge hassle for friends and family who want to attend the wedding.

There are several resorts in the larger tourist towns that cater to brides who are planning weddings but any hotel or resort will have staff on hand to help you plan a wedding.  Plus you can usually get a substantial discount from a hotel or resort when you book rooms for all your family and friends and have your wedding and honeymoon at that resort.

Since the bride and groom are expected to pay for the accommodations and expenses of the entire bridal party and often the guests as well that discount from the hotels can really help out your bottom line.  But a destination wedding isn’t as costly as you might think; it’s really very close to the price of a traditional wedding in most cases even with the expense of paying for the accommodations of your family and friends.

For the price of a traditional wedding you can have a lovely destination wedding and vacation combined in Jamaica. Just picture what it would be like to be exchanging vows with your partner at sunset on a white Jamaican beach with all your loved ones there to wish you well. Wouldn’t that be a beautiful way to start your new life together!

Travel Tips for Traveling to Aruba

Planning a vacation to Aruba? You’ll love Aruba’s perfect climate with a fairly steady temperature in the low 80’s.

Aruba also has amazing white sand beaches and turquoise water that you will love swimming and diving in. Aruba has a lot of natural attractions like the biggest natural coral bridge in the world and a wonderful national forest but there are lots of other activities that you’ll find in Aruba to keep you busy.

If you’re going to Aruba during the high season, or the most popular travel season which is from December to April you’ll be mingling with a lot of different tourists from a lot of different places.

Here are some travel tips that you can use to make the most of your trip to Aruba.  The first thing that you should do when you get to Aruba is change about half of your money to local currency. The currency of Aruba is the florin.  Leave some money in US dollars in case of emergencies and have your credit cards with you just in case but when it comes to leaving gratuities, buying food in markets, or shopping for keep-sakes you will get better deals and you will be less likely to get cheated if you are using local currency instead of US dollars.

Not all merchants will accept US dollars so if you are planning on using US dollars to pay for something ask the merchant in advance if he or she accepts US dollars for payment.  Another way to make your trip more enjoyable is to get off the beaten tourist paths.  Strike out on your own and explore some of the wild country of the island on horseback or find a sheltered beach to picnic on.

If you’re shopping or eating out don’t just go to the shops at the hotel or near the hotel. Venture out into the cities and try some local cuisine so that you can pick up some local flavors.

Most people in the cities are very friendly and love to talk to tourists so strike up a conversation with a local over a cool drink and learn about the history of the island and what it’s like to live in Aruba from a local.

Support local businesses by buying souvenirs at local arts and crafts shows instead of buying mass produced trinkets in the hotel gift shops.

When you go home from vacation you’ll be glad you have memories of seeing what the island was really like and talking to local people to pick up bits of local culture.  You’ll have great stories to tell about your vacation and you’ll have a much better sense of what Aruba is really like.

You might even find that you like Aruba so much you want to travel there again or even buy a vacation rental in Aruba so that you can visit every year.  If you want to spend some time in a tropical paradise without having to spend your whole life’s savings to do it then Aruba is the perfect vacation destination for you.
