Florida’s Busch Gardens Africa

Located in 335 acres of land, the Busch Gardens Africa is an African-themed fun park that features a number of wild life exhibits. This 19th century modern safari is located in Tampa, Florida.

The Busch Gardens Africa opened in March 31, 1959 and served as a hospitality facility, free of admission, for the local brewery called the Tampa Anheuser-Busch. Visitors of the theme park can watch animal acts placed in a tropical environment and even enter the beer garden where free Busch beers are offered to enjoy.

However, the manufacturing plant shut down some years later and the Busch Gardens focused more and more on its exotic animals, tropical landscape and amusement attractions to attract visitors. Since then, the Busch Gardens began charging admission fees and extra charges for their rides, including their famous roller coasters. Presently, the Busch Gardens Africa charges comparable fees with other theme parks found in Florida.

Wildlife Exhibits

The Serengeti Plains of the Busch Gardens Africa opened in 1965 and is the first of its kind to exhibit animals freely roaming the area. The animal habitat is home to a number of wild animals including the bongo, addax, reticulated giraffe, impala, marabou stork, ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, eland, addra gazelle, sacred ibis and the East African crowned crane.

Another exhibit the park has is the Edge of Africa, which opened in 1997. This is a walkthrough attraction where guests can observe several African wild animals. Animals in the exhibit include a pack of hyenas, a troop of lemurs, a pride of lions, meerkats and a few hippos.

The Curiosity Caverns is another attraction of the park that features animals, such as: porcupines, bats, sugar gliders, snakes and lizards. This cavern exhibit is also formerly known as the Nocturnal Mountain.

Lastly, guests can view chimpanzees and lowland gorillas at the Myombe Reserve. The exhibit is located on 3 acres of land at the Nairobi area of the Busch Gardens Africa.

Areas of the Busch Gardens Africa

The Busch Gardens Africa is divided into several areas that are individually and uniquely themed. Such areas include the Bird Gardens, Morocco, Stanleyville, Congo, Land of the Dragons, Nairobi and Crown Colony, to mention a few.

The Bird Gardens is the original area of the park that opened in 1959. The Bird Gardens contains a major attraction called the Gwazi. In addition, the area is also used as a venue for bird shows, which include a number of mammals.

The Morocco is located at the main entrance of the Busch Gardens Africa. The area is home to Morocco’s Mystic Shieks percussion and brass ensemble. Guests can purchase treats at the area’s Zagora Café and Sultan’s Sweets. The area also features the Moroccan Palace and an outdoor Marrakesh Theater.

The area where guests can find the park’s water slides and the roller coaster SheiKra is at the Stanleyville. Attractions and rides at this area include the Stanley Falls Flume, Tanganyika Tidal Wave and the SheiKra.

5 Fun Things to Do In Orlando

Not sure what to do when you’re in Orlando?

There are a lot more than 5 fun things to do when you’re on vacation in Orlando. In fact there are more than 500 fun things to do when you’re in Orlando but there are just a few of the amazing and fun things to see and do when you’re on vacation in Orlando.

If you love manatees then you should definitely go to Blue Spring State Park just outside of Orlando. It’s the winter home of the manatees so if you go in the right time of year you can see hundreds of manatees in their natural habitat.  Wildlife lovers will cherish the chance to see these beautiful creatures in the wild.

You can also go camping, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking in the park so if you are a camping enthusiast you should bring your camping gear and spend a few days exploring the park. You should also visit the Harry P. Leu Gardens in downtown Orlando.  The gardens are impressive at more than 50 acres and have some of the finest exotic flowers and plants in the US.

A stroll through the Harry P. Leu Gardens is a wonderful way to spend a quiet afternoon or evening with someone special. For antique collectors the Morse Museum of American Art is a must see while you’re in Orlando.

The Morse Museum of American Art is home to the largest collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany in the world. You can view some amazing examples of Tiffany art glass, jewelry and pottery as well as the interior of the chapel that Tiffany designed for the Chicago World’s Fair.  Historians and people who love antiques will get a kick out of seeing some of Tiffany’s finest work.

When you’re looking for a great show to see when you’re in Orlando a great option is the Cirque Du Soleil La Nouba which you can see in a special theater designed just for the acrobatic troupe. You can also catch the Blue Man Group performing one of their signature high energy shows.

Orlando has a very diverse population and the influences of many cultures can be found all over the city. If you don’t like crowded tourist attractions then you might just like to wander through the city and have coffee at a Hispanic coffee shop or have dinner a restaurant that specializes in serving dishes seasoned with local flavor.

Pick up some souvenirs in a little ethnic market or have your picture taken in front of one of Orlando’s many historic buildings. It doesn’t matter how you choose to spend your time you will find lots of things to do and lots of new and interesting things to see when you spend some time on vacation in Orlando.

Whether you are vacationing with the kids or vacationing with someone special or just taking a trip by yourself so that you can relax and unwind you will fall in love with the magic and beauty that surrounds you in Orlando.
